Residents on Dawlish Avenue have mounted a campaign to highlight concerns relating to a series of attempted beurglaries that have recently been carried out on the road, which have left residents feeling shaken and scared. The impact of any crime is felt by many and the residents have subsequently taken the decision to write to the Borough Commander Caroline Haines, their local MP Bambos Charalambos and the council leader Nesil Caliskan demanding action from the authorities.

Theft of and from motor vehicles is also an issue that many residents across the ward are reeling from. The Neighbourhood Community Police team are trying to do a good job but ultimately responses will be reactive and residents feel that generally there is a lack of confidence in policing – their campaign is calling for more visible policing both on the beat and patrol cars. The issue is a double-edged sword as the lack of confidence sees a number of residents failing to report the crimes that have taken place and one of the messages from this piece is that we must all play our part in being vigilant but also to report any crimes when they happen so the police borough can have an accurate picture on crime patterns.
The residents have demanded an audience with those in charge in the form of a public meeting – watch this space!

In addition to the crime aspects the residents have also been campaigning for safer roads as Dawlish Avenue has become a rat-run between the A406 and so far the council have shown a distinct lack of interest in listening to the concerns of residents.
